About
Susan Living BHSc
Over the past 14 years I’ve seen many changes in the health industry. Many of us are moving away from the magic pill solution and returning to simple lifestyle change and healthier habits and this can only be a good thing. More and more of us are becoming aware that true health encompasses not just the physical body but mental and emotional health as well.
Susan’s love for health and happiness began at a young age. From Band-Aids on Barbies, to making natural skin care products and her own toothpaste, taking loooong walks in the bush, meditating for 10 hours a day and completing a 40 day fast on water, her quest for ever improving health and vitality continues.
Susan began her career in health in 1996 as an acupuncturist, remedial massage therapist and non-medicated detoxification specialist and is trained in nutrition, counselling and herbal medicine. She’s a Fellow of her professional association and a qualified trainer. She has worked extensively in relaxation centres and multi-modality clinics and from hotels, houses and homes she’s run successful businesses. Susan spent time working with migrants through translators with Queensland Programme of Assistance to Survivors of Torture and Trauma, has volunteered in addiction treatment clinics and as a LifeLine Counsellor and developed and ran a health clinic within a centre for those with abuse and addiction issues. Recently, she travelled around helping miners and truck drivers stop smoking and working in her own business helping people find practical solutions to stress and anxiety in their lives.
As a health coach, I don’t pigeonhole or diagnose people: I simply work with an individual towards achievable outcomes – namely, greater peace of mind and improved physical health and functioning. I find most people know (or suspect) what they need to change, they’re just not quite sure how. I help them look at underlying issues that are preventing them from making those simple adjustments and then improving health becomes easy. No matter where you are at with you health right now there are always simple things you can implement that will make a difference to how you feel straight away and no matter how healthy you are, there are always greater and greater levels of health and vitality available to you.
Susan also work as a “health broker”, connecting people with leading and qualified health professionals in their local area. She organises practical seminars on many aspects of health and wellbeing in everyday life and works in businesses to help employers find simple and affordable ways to promote the health and wellness of their team. Susan is a writer on health and happiness and regularly contribute to Brisbane Woman, Empowering Women and QCG Magazine.
On the bigger picture side of things, I am developing an international community of health care professionals working together to change the way medicine is viewed, accessed and delivered. “I envision a world where we are encouraged to take responsibility for our health, where our children are educated about stress reduction, where doctors prescribe dietary changes before medication and counselling before anti-depressants and where medical staff work side by side with natural therapists in hospitals and clinics. Working together, health professionals can support each other so more people can access truly vibrant health and prolong their lives free from pain and disease.
